If you had actually talked with parents in Camden you would realize they don't want the Urban Hope project.Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00354743173050010564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618709929318397424.post-43580533168574266592012-08-02T11:27:51.639-04:002012-08-02T11:27:51.639-04:00Ms. Waters,
What Save Our Schools NJ would prefer...Ms. Waters,

What Save Our Schools NJ would prefer is that the people of Camden stop being treated like plantation residents and be given the right to local democratic control of their schools.

The current Camden school board was appointed by the Mayor, who is part of the George Norcross machine. Not surprising that she and the School Board have been largely unresponsive to Camden residents' wishes.

The people of Camden have turned out to several large meetings, reported on by the Philadelphia Inquirer, and have made clear that they want a new public school built at Lanning Square, not an Urban Hope School.

By the way, those residents also made clear they do not like the Camden charter schools, which they see segregating out the more challenging to educate children, such as those with special needs.

You also forget to mention another interesting tidbit about the Urban Hope program that we find disconcerting. The Urban Hope schools, which would be build with taxpayer money, can be built by a for-profit via a no-bid contract, on land owned by that same for-profit, and that for-profit can also manage the school. No room for corruption there, right?Juliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04094617130774541174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618709929318397424.post-22159968775558636322012-07-31T11:16:18.593-04:002012-07-31T11:16:18.593-04:00The author's attitude toward a reasoned discus...The author's attitude toward a reasoned discussion of important questions:

"With all due respect, who cares?"

Talk about 'no-brainers'!kallikakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13030316064310826943noreply@blogger.com
