On prospects for passage in the NJ Legislature for bills on tenure reform, merit pay, and multiple authorizers for charter schools, from The Record:
Brigid Harrison, a political science professor at Montclair State University, said politicians don't want to antagonize the NJEA further after they infuriated organized labor in June by passing bills requiring that public workers pay more for their health and pension benefits.
"In the next eight weeks the thing they're going to be focusing on is their own reelection, and that would lead them to be reluctant to take on highly charged issues," she said. "There will be noise but as far as moving legislation, I can't see a significant coalition building to act on this before the elections."
