The Statehouse halls were lined today with teachers as the Assembly looked at bills that would, among other things, require teachers to pay 1.5 percent of their salary toward health care costs. "Think of the kids" they yelled to lawmakers. OK. Who's in the classroom teaching the kids while you're in Trenton protesting? Did they hire substitute teachers and how much did that cost the taxpayers? Most of the bills would affect future teachers. If nothing is done and the system collapses, that affects all teachers.
